You should join your state chapter through the IV forums. State Chapter volunteers should plan to contact local politicians and meet them face to face. Nothing is more powerful than visiting face to face and impressing upon politicians how important this issue is.
But again mailing is also a great idea. I have the following link for House Representatives who got elected recently:
http://asp.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/vote2006/NationalElectionResultsByStateCounty.aspx?sp=CA&oi=H&rti=G&&tf=l
USATODAY.com
You can look up their contact information at
http://www.house.gov/writerep/
Senate has always backed us. It is the house that has stonewalled us for last two years. So I tend to believe it is better to contact House Reps

My feeling was that there are No NEW jobs here in USA especially for immigrants. I felt jobs are slowly being offshored and new job creation was not catching upto that. This matches with unemployment numbers 10%+... Also I feel there are enough people looking for PROJECT while on H1B..
Its good to see this is changing with new H1b hiring happening!!
P.S I am not anti-immigrant!

H1B Visa Lawyer Blog Has Just Posted the Following:
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has extended the time period for information collection (http://www.aila.org/content/fileviewer.aspx?docid=31614&linkid=220246) for Form I-102, Application for Replacement/Initial Nonimmigrant Arrival-Departure Document until July 23, 2010.
During this period, USCIS will be evaluating whether to revise Form I-102 (http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-102.pdf).
The purpose of the form: for a nonimmigrant to apply for a new or replacement Form I-94 or I-95 Nonimmigrant Arrival-Departure Document.

Written comments and suggestions from the public and affected agencies should address one or more of the following four points:
(1) Evaluate whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether the information will have practical utility;
(2) Evaluate the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed collection of information, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions used;
(3) Enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and
(4) Minimize the burden of the collection of information on those who are to respond, including through the use of appropriate automated, electronic, mechanical, or other technological collection techniques or other forms of information technology, e.g., permitting electronic submission of responses.

Guys I am posting this under General Information knowing that this is definitely not an immigration related question. So, please control your urge for giving negative reps. I have booked a wheelchair for my mom who cannot walk properly in Frankfurt airport during her transit of flights. Do they generally take them till the next flight gate? Also, there is only one hour time gap between these 2 flights? Will this be sufficient for them to take her to the next flight gate. Has anyone used this service for your parents and what are their experiences?
Thanks in advance.
btw, the airlines that she is travelling is lufthansa.

From immigration-law
The situation is particularly critical because of the USCIS decision not to accept the I-485 filings without the medical report. AILA demanded leniency but the USCIS reportely refused to accept such demand. Since medical report is "initial evidence" to I-485 filing, under the recent rule change, any I-485 filing with the medical report can be rejected or denied. Reports indicate that there are a huge backlog in scheduling medical examination in most of the areas in the country.
Does anyone face backlogs in getting medical examination? Please reply. Just Want to check the authenticity of this news?

I got my GC but my wife's application (based on my 485) is still pending. I think at this point I can switch jobs/go to school full time and it won't affect my spouse's case. Just want to double check on this, any thoughts??

1. when the H1B extension was applied, your employer must have attached the copy of the old H1B and USCIS also would have had the old H1B and date, still they approved..it so they took that 6 days in to consideration..that can be one argument..if you have to make somewhere.
2. If your packed was mailed before 20 Feb and it reached on 26 that could also add to the argument...that it was "POST MARKED" before 20 Feb...but you dont have anything to show it..
3. it seems you were technically "out of status" in those days...
4. Was your I-94 was also till 20 FEb..normally they give I-94 10-15 days after the date of visa expiry..

You can continue working in any position as long as you are with the same company. As long as your position and salary is not reduced, no one cares.
I went from programmer to VP of Tech and nothing happened.
I am on h1-b visa and I have got an opportunity to have promotion in my current company. This new position is in the same department with the same company and needs almost same type of computer skill but with higher position title, more responsibility, and higher pay.
Question:
Do i need to file for new h1-b or transfer?

Yes for H1B you are entitled to get Return ticket back to your home country if you are being laid off or fired. Last year my earlier employer offer me return ticket to home contry. They specified that we are offering as per the clause or law of H1B visa. Offcourse I didnt accept it but you cant get money for not accepting this return ticket offer.
Hope this help

04/17/2006: CIS Ombudsman Recommends USCIS Director to Issue Multiple-Year EAD
USCIS has already enacted a regulation that allows the Service Centers to issue multiple-year EAD. However, this regulation has not been implemented by the USCIS because of its impact on the USCIS revenue. The Ombudsman wrote on March 20, 2006 his recommendation to Dr. Emilio Gonzalez, Director of USCIS to implement this regulation on the ground that multiple-year EADs would substantially reduce the USCIS immigration benefits workloads and that if impact on the revenue was the hangup for the failure to implement the published regulation which is a binding rule, the USCIS might consider raising the EAD application filing fees. Multiple-year EAD will relieve the customers from substantial inconvenience and hassle each year. The statistics also strongly support the Ombudsman's statement that issuance of multiple-year EAD would reduce substantially the USCIS workload. For instance, the February 2006 monthly immigration statistical report indicates that the total receipts of entire applications and petitions numbered 409,893, out of which EAD applications numbered 100,051, during one month in January 2006. It means one-fourth of total immigrantion benefits applications and petitions were taken by the EAD applications! This reporter strongly and without any reservations supports the Ombudsman's recommendation and justification! This reporter urges Dr. Gonzalez to implement the regulation as soon as possible.
The CIS Ombudsman also recommends the USCIS to issue EAD valid as of the date of the current EAD expiration rather than the date of approval. Current practice has raised pains and aches to the I-485 waiters in two areas: Potential gap between the date of expiration of current EAD and the date of approval of extension of EAD, and loss of some period of existing EAD when the EAD renewal is issued a few months earlier than the expiration date of the current EAD. Again, we strongly support this recommendation as well. For the memorandum of the Ombdudsman addressed to the Director of USCIS, please click here.
